The Sydney Swans have announced they will sanction players for a serious breach of club standards following a reported sexual assault incident at a Melbourne hotel. The AFL club's board is set to impose penalties independent of the ongoing police investigation.
Club's Statement and Sanctions
The Sydney Swans issued a statement on Tuesday night confirming that the players involved are in serious breach of expected club behaviour and standards. The club's board met to agree on penalties, emphasizing that any sanctions relate solely to the breaches of club rules, not to the police investigation.

Police Investigation

No arrests have been made, and no charges have been laid. The investigation is ongoing, and the club's actions are separate from any legal proceedings.
AFL's Response
AFL chief executive Andrew Dillon called the allegations deeply concerning and stated the league is prepared to act when standards are not met. He emphasized that the AFL and the Sydney Swans will consider broader conduct as more information emerges, while respecting the privacy of the woman who made the report.
The Swans condemned all forms of abuse and disrespectful behaviour towards women, and offered support to AFLW athletes and staff, whose welfare is of utmost importance.
