Netanyahu Rejects US Gaza Peace Plan in Break with Trump 2026

Netanyahu rejects US-led 15-point Gaza peace plan, marking a rare public break with President Trump. The Israeli prime minister's statement on Sunday dismissed the proposal, insisting that the IDF will not withdraw until Hamas is fully disarmed. This bold stance signals a significant rift in US-Israel relations and raises questions about the future of Middle East diplomacy.

Netanyahu's Rejection of the US Peace Plan

In a fiery statement, Netanyahu said, "Israel does not accept the 15-point document." He emphasized that any withdrawal from Gaza is conditional on the complete disarmament of Hamas, including heavy and light weaponry. This comes after Trump's Board of Peace proposed the plan in July, which mandated Hamas disarmament in exchange for a full Israeli military withdrawal and a transition to an independent Palestinian National Committee.

Netanyahu's rejection is a direct challenge to the Trump administration, which has been pushing for a staged implementation of the agreement. The Israeli leader's demand for "genuine disarmament, not fictitious disarmament" highlights his hardline stance and domestic political pressures ahead of October elections.

Key Points of the 15-Point Plan

The US-backed plan was designed to end the conflict in Gaza through a phased approach. However, Netanyahu's refusal to accept it without immediate disarmament has created a stalemate. Here are the main components of the plan:

• Hamas must disarm all weaponry, including heavy and light arms.
• Israel would withdraw its military forces from the Gaza Strip.
• Power would transition to an independent Palestinian National Committee.
• The agreement would be implemented in stages, with monitoring mechanisms.

Comparison: US Proposal vs. Israel's Demands

To understand the deadlock, let's compare the US plan with Netanyahu's conditions:

This table illustrates the fundamental disagreement over sequencing and verification. Netanyahu's insistence on disarmament first is a non-negotiable stance that could derail peace efforts.

Why This Break with Trump Matters

Netanyahu's public rebuke is unprecedented, as Israel has typically aligned with US foreign policy. The Israeli prime minister is facing tough elections in October and pressure from hardliners in his coalition. By rejecting the plan, he aims to project strength and defend his reputation as Israel's protector. This move tests the limits of the Trump-Netanyahu alliance, which has been a cornerstone of Middle East policy.

The US had hoped to broker peace in Gaza, Lebanon, and Iran, but Israel's resistance has become a stumbling block. Netanyahu's statement also comes amid escalated Israeli bombing in Gaza, which killed 18 people last Sunday, further complicating the situation.

Key Takeaways for Readers

• Netanyahu's rejection creates uncertainty for peace negotiations.
• The demand for full disarmament is seen as unrealistic by some analysts.
• US-Israel relations face a rare public strain.
• Elections in Israel could influence future decisions.
• Regional stability remains at risk without a viable agreement.
