In a surprising turn of events, Joe diGenova, a longtime ally of Donald Trump, has resigned from his position leading the Department of Justice investigation into whether former law enforcement and intelligence officials conspired against the Republican president. The resignation, announced on Thursday, has injected immediate uncertainty into an inquiry that has been a top priority for Trump.
Who Is Joe diGenova and Why Did He Resign?
Joe diGenova is a former U.S. attorney and a vocal supporter of Donald Trump. He was appointed to lead the DOJ's investigation into an alleged conspiracy against Trump by former officials. In his resignation statement, diGenova said, "Sometimes people want things done faster and that's all you can do." He appeared to be referring to concerns among other Trump loyalists that the president's retribution cases were not moving quickly enough. He added, "The bottom line is it takes a long time to make good cases, and you simply have to work at it. All you can do is do the best you can under the circumstances."
