Ukraine Drones Hit Wildberries Warehouse 2,000km from Border 2026

The Ukraine war briefing reports that Ukrainian long-range drones hit a Wildberries warehouse in Ekaterinburg, Russia's fourth-largest city, over 2,000km from the border. This drone strike on a major Russian e-commerce hub marks a significant escalation in Kyiv's ability to target deep inside Russian territory, disrupting supply chains and raising security concerns for Russian businesses.

Drone Attack on Wildberries: Details and Impact

According to local officials and the company, three drones struck the warehouse's roof, setting it ablaze. Wildberries, Russia's biggest online retailer, stated that most merchandise was not damaged, but more than a dozen other Wildberries depots have been hit by Ukrainian drones in recent weeks, with many burning down. The regional governor, Denis Pasler, confirmed the attack, and Kremlin representative Artyom Zhoga reported that 800 people were evacuated without injuries.

This incident highlights the growing vulnerability of Russian infrastructure to Ukrainian long-range strikes. The attack occurred as Vladimir Putin chaired a security council meeting focused on strengthening the protection of infrastructure facilities, underscoring the Kremlin's concern over these escalating attacks.

Strategic Significance of the Ekaterinburg Strike

The choice of Ekaterinburg, a key logistics hub in the Ural Mountains, demonstrates Ukraine's intent to disrupt Russian e-commerce and logistics networks far from the front lines. By targeting Wildberries, Ukraine aims to undermine civilian morale and economic stability, while also showcasing its advanced drone capabilities. This drone strike is part of a broader strategy to bring the war home to ordinary Russians, as evidenced by recent attacks on other commercial and energy infrastructure.

Global Response: US Sanctions and EU Actions

In parallel, the US Senate passed a bill backing sweeping energy sanctions on Russia, which Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked, saying it helped increase pressure on Moscow. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen welcomed the vote, noting it complements the EU's 21st sanctions package and demonstrates transatlantic unity. These sanctions aim to punish Russia and countries buying its petroleum exports, further straining the Russian economy.

The combination of military strikes and economic sanctions is designed to weaken Russia's war effort and deter future aggression. As the conflict continues, such measures are critical in shaping the outcome.
