Ukraine's new army chief Mykhailo Drapatyi has vowed to step up counteroffensive actions, signaling a shift in strategy as Kyiv seeks to regain momentum against Russian forces. The 43-year-old major general assumed command following a reshuffle by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who emphasized the need for more aggressive operations. This announcement comes as EU ambassadors are locked in discussions on the 21st package of sanctions against Russia, with several member states pushing back against certain proposals.
New Leadership and Strategic Goals
Mykhailo Drapatyi, a seasoned commander with experience in the Donbas region, has been tasked with revitalizing Ukraine's military efforts. In his first public remarks, he stated that the armed forces have been ordered to intensify counteroffensive actions to bring the war back to Russian territory. This aligns with Zelenskyy's recent praise for overnight attacks on Russian logistics hubs, which he described as part of a strategy to return the war home.
