Enzo Maresca has officially taken the helm at Manchester City, tasked with the monumental challenge of following the legendary Pep Guardiola. In his first press conference, the 46-year-old Italian acknowledged the weight of history, referencing Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsène Wenger to illustrate the difficulties that follow long-tenured managers. With a relaxed demeanor and a tan from his summer break, Maresca began by sending a heartfelt message to the family of the late Kevin Keegan, a former City manager and football icon.
Enzo Maresca's Strategy to Evolve After Pep
Maresca understands that replicating Guardiola's 20 trophies in 10 years is unrealistic. Instead, he emphasized evolution over revolution. “You need to evolve,” he stated, hinting at tactical tweaks while maintaining City's possession-based philosophy. His previous stints as head of City's elite development squad and as Guardiola's assistant during the treble-winning 2022-23 season give him unique insight into the club's culture.

Tribute to Kevin Keegan and Football Legacy
Before fielding questions, Maresca paid tribute to Kevin Keegan, who passed away Monday. “Before we start, I would like to send a message and a big hug to Kevin Keegan’s family for this moment,” he said. Keegan, a former City manager, famously feuded with Sir Alex Ferguson during his Newcastle days—a reminder of the fierce rivalries Maresca now faces.
