Tour de France 2026: Carapaz Wins Stage 20 on Alpe d'Huez 2026

The Tour de France 2026 delivered a dramatic Stage 20 as Richard Carapaz won on the legendary climb of Alpe d'Huez. Tadej Pogacar retained the yellow jersey heading into a shortened final stage due to wildfires in France.

Carapaz's Triumph on Alpe d'Huez

Richard Carapaz of EF Education-EasyPost attacked early on the 13.8km climb, building a lead that no one could close. The Ecuadorian rider crossed the finish line alone, celebrating his first stage win of the Tour. Carapaz now sits eighth overall, climbing in the general classification.

Wildfires Force Stage Shortening

Wildfires around Arcachon and Biscarrosse destroyed over 36,000 hectares of forest, prompting the prefecture to redeploy security forces. Stage 21 will now be only 89km, starting on the Champs-Élysées with two laps and circuits of the Butte Montmartre. Pogacar's victory parade was already assured, but the truncated stage adds a final twist.
