Myles Lewis-Skelly Transfer to Manchester United: Left-Back Solution 2026

Myles Lewis-Skelly has been offered to Manchester United as a potential left-back solution, with Arsenal seeking to recoup funds for a major midfield signing. The 19-year-old England youth international, who helped Arsenal win the Premier League last season, is valued at around £45m. Manchester United are exploring this option as they look to strengthen their defensive line ahead of the new campaign.

Why Arsenal are Selling Myles Lewis-Skelly

Arsenal's decision to offer Lewis-Skelly stems from their need to balance the books after spending £75m on Bruno Guimarães from Newcastle. The Gunners are also keen to give more playing time to other academy graduates, making the young left-back surplus to requirements. Despite signing a five-year contract last summer, Lewis-Skelly made only five league starts and 36 total appearances in 2025-26, indicating he is not yet a regular starter under Mikel Arteta.

The sale would provide Arsenal with significant financial flexibility, allowing them to reinvest in other areas of the squad. For Lewis-Skelly, a move to Manchester United could offer more first-team opportunities, especially given the club's ongoing issues at left-back.

Manchester United's Left-Back Search Intensifies

Manchester United have been actively searching for a new left-back, with Newcastle's Lewis Hall remaining their prime target. However, Newcastle's new manager Matthias Jaissle is determined to keep Hall, especially after losing key players like Guimarães, Sandro Tonali, and Anthony Gordon. This has forced United to consider alternatives, including Lewis-Skelly and RB Leipzig's David Raum, a 28-year-old left-back who could provide immediate experience.

United have already spent significant sums this summer, including £35m on Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa and £48m plus £2m in add-ons for Andrey Santos from Chelsea. Adding Lewis-Skelly for £45m would fit within their budget, but they must decide whether to prioritize youth or experience in this crucial position.

Comparing Lewis-Skelly and David Raum

To help evaluate the options, here is a comparison of the two left-backs based on recent performances and potential:

While Raum offers immediate reliability, Lewis-Skelly represents a long-term investment with resale value. United's decision will depend on their immediate goals and whether they believe the young Englishman can develop into a world-class left-back.

Chelsea's Interest and Competition

Chelsea have also been informed of Lewis-Skelly's availability, creating a potential bidding war. However, Chelsea's interest is less clear, and they may prioritize other positions. If United act swiftly, they could secure the player without excessive competition, but they must be wary of Chelsea's ability to outbid them, especially given their recent spending power.

For Lewis-Skelly, a move to either club would be a significant step up in his career. At Manchester United, he would compete with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, but could eventually become the first-choice left-back. At Chelsea, he would face similar competition, but the club's tactical setup might suit his attacking style better.

Key Takeaways for Manchester United Fans

• Lewis-Skelly is available for around £45m, a reasonable fee for a young English talent.
• He offers long-term potential but lacks consistent first-team experience.
• United must decide between youth and experience, with David Raum as an alternative.
• Chelsea's interest could drive up the price or force a quick decision.
• Securing a left-back is critical for United's defensive stability next season.
