This DIY project features a coat rack with rotating arms on the main pole, plus two shelves and a horizontal bar to maximize space for storing clothes, shoes, and bags without clutter. You can build it yourself with affordable materials. Here’s a unique take on the classic coat rack.

What You Need

Tools: Jigsaw, hand saw, drill with hole saw attachment.

Materials: 19 mm melamine particle board; self-adhesive edge banding; 2 threaded rods Ø 12 mm x 1000 mm; 1 threaded coupling; PVC pipe Ø 30 mm; 6 PVC T-fittings Ø 30 mm; 1 PVC elbow Ø 30 mm; 4 washers Ø 12-30 mm with lock nuts; 5 knobs Ø 30 mm; 1 rubber foot; glue; paint; 4 hidden shelf brackets.

For a successful project, you'll need quality home improvement tools and materials to get started.

Installing the Floor Coat Rack

Start by cutting the two shelves from melamine particle board. Use a jigsaw to cut one side of each shelf into a semicircle. Finish the exposed edges with self-adhesive edge banding. The wall-side edge remains straight for mounting.

Next, assemble the main pole using PVC pipe and fittings. Insert the threaded rods through the T-fittings and secure with washers and lock nuts. Attach the shelves using hidden brackets. Add the rotating arms by fitting the knobs onto the PVC elbows. Finally, mount the rubber foot on the base for stability.

• Paint or stain the wood shelves to match your sofas or dining tables.
• Add lighting nearby to highlight the rack.
