Bring movement to your meals with a stylish DIY serving cart. Whether you're hosting a buffet or just want a mobile coffee station, a simple wooden board and four swivel casters can transform your space. Below, we explore two gorgeous designs—one with a mirrored top for glamour, and one with lightweight metal mesh for an industrial-chic vibe. One Shelf, Four Wheels: Food Always on the Move

It's possible to have food in motion when you build serving carts fitted with swivel casters. Place whatever you like on the shelf and roll it around your home to suit the mood of the moment. The shelf can be made from various materials and with different aesthetic solutions, depending on what it needs to support. Swivel casters are available in different materials (metal, plastic, etc.) and are fixed to the shelf either via a square plate with four holes for screws, or via a threaded pin with a nut and lock nut inserted into a hole drilled under the shelf. Mirror-Top Serving Cart

This mirrored cart is made from a 500×850 mm plywood panel, 20 mm thick, edged with a ramin strip (7×23 mm) that acts as a frame for a 6 mm mirror, placed on top of the panel and fixed with a few dots of silicone adhesive.

• Mark the correct position for the swivel casters on the plywood panel with a pencil.
• Drill pilot holes using a bradawl.
• Screw the casters to the panel with four 15 mm self-tapping screws.

Looking for a matching mirror or lighting to complete the look? We've got you covered.

Lightweight Mesh Serving Cart

For an industrial-chic look, cut the base from a sheet of perforated iron sheet metal. The sheet can have round or hexagonal holes—choose whichever you prefer. Use a pair of suitable tin snips and wear gloves to protect your hands. The final dimensions are 300×700 mm, but the sheet must be 60 mm wider on each side so you can fold the edges to create essential stiffening. Swivel casters with plate attachments are screwed into four small wooden blocks inserted into the folded corners of the sheet metal.

• Before folding the edges, cut a 30×30 mm square from each of the four corners.
• To create the fold, use the edge of a table or a 30×30 mm angle iron the same length as the long side of the sheet metal.

Pair your new cart with outdoor patio furniture or garden supplies for seamless indoor-outdoor entertaining.
