NVIDIA is considering the return of the Samsung Foundry-produced GeForce RTX 3060 2026

As reported by Korean media outlet Hangyung, NVIDIA may bring back one of its most popular graphics cards, the GeForce RTX 3060, with Samsung Foundry preparing to take over the production of the chips.

The move is tied to the need to maintain a flow of available gaming GPUs as the industry faces production constraints and fluctuating demand, while more advanced manufacturing hubs shift to other product categories.

The GeForce RTX 3060 was originally released in 2021 and quickly evolved into one of the most widely used GPUs among PC gamers. Although newer generations have appeared since then, this particular model remains popular thanks to its strong performance at 1080p resolution as well as at the level of a first experience at 1440p resolution.

Restarting production of a five-year-old graphics card may seem unusual, but the timeframe is described as workable under current circumstances. Demand for advanced semiconductor nodes, especially those used in AI chips, has grown sharply, making it difficult for companies to secure sufficient production capacity for consumer GPUs.

In this environment, the RTX 3060 is based on Samsung's 8nm manufacturing process, which was already used for the Ampere series when the card was first released. This means that Samsung can restart production using this process, without competing with the leading nodes that are currently prioritizing AI accelerators and next-generation GPUs.

For NVIDIA, bringing back the RTX 3060 could act as a way to keep affordable GPUs on store shelves while the newer production capacity goes to higher-margin hardware like AI and data center solutions.
