Greyhound life drawing is a unique art experience that combines creativity with canine rescue. I’ve done life drawing before, but this time I am a bit worried – the model is a greyhound named Nina, and she doesn’t understand poses.
What Is Greyhound Life Drawing?
Held at TKO Tattoos in Eltham, north of Melbourne, these monthly classes invite artists to sketch whippets and greyhounds. The fundraiser sells out quickly, raising money for the rescue service Greyt Greys.

Why Greyhounds Make Challenging Models
Unlike human models, greyhounds move unpredictably and ignore requests to “hold still”. Yet their elegant, muscular bodies and long narrow heads offer a rewarding challenge for artists.
| Feature | Greyhound | Whippet |
|---|---|---|
| Size | Larger (25-30 inches) | Smaller (18-22 inches) |
| Racing | Commercial racing in Victoria | Hobby racing only |
| Temperament | Calm, gentle | Energetic, friendly |
In the class, Nina lounges on a red cushion while Fettuccine the whippet greets attendees. The atmosphere is relaxed, with tattoo art lining the walls.
