British Athletics Coach Leon Baptiste Missing in Morocco 2026

The mysterious disappearance of British Athletics coach Leon Baptiste has raised growing concern among athletes and officials. The 41-year-old coach, known for guiding elite sprinters including Olympic relay medallist Charlie Dobson, has not been heard from since a weekend trip to Morocco roughly two months ago. As the situation unfolds, questions mount over his safety and the impact on his athletes' preparations.

Who is Leon Baptiste?

Leon Baptiste is a former sprinter who won gold in the 200m and 4x100m relay at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi. He retired at age 28 due to a serious knee injury, which also prevented him from competing at the London 2012 Olympics. After retiring, he transitioned into coaching and became a highly regarded consultant for UK Athletics, based in Loughborough.

Coaching Career and Athletes

Baptiste coached several elite athletes, most notably Charlie Dobson, who won a bronze medal in the 4x400m relay at the Paris Olympics. His coaching style was praised for being calm and methodical. His sudden absence has left a void in the training setup of his athletes.

What Happened During the Morocco Trip?

According to reports, Baptiste traveled to Morocco for a weekend getaway with close friends, possibly for a stag do or golf trip. However, he has not communicated with anyone since. His phone goes unanswered, and UK Athletics has declined to comment, citing confidentiality. A former teammate expressed deep worry, stating, "He was a very calm and sensible chap. No one knows what has happened. It is very worrying."
