Louisiana House candidate Blake Miguez faces a serious rape accusation while seeking to regain Donald Trump's endorsement after a redistricting upheaval. The Republican state senator, who denies the 2007 allegation, is weighing runs in two new districts after the Supreme Court's Callais v Louisiana decision redrew the map.
Background of the Accusation and Political Fallout
A police report obtained by The Guardian details a rape accusation made against Miguez in 2007, though no charges were ever filed. Miguez has consistently denied the claim, calling it false. The report resurfaced shortly after Miguez secured Trump's endorsement for the previous congressional district—a district that no longer exists following the court-ordered redistricting.

His campaign initially locked the website and issued a statement expressing hope to “earn” the endorsement again under the new lines. A White House spokesperson later clarified that Trump did not formally rescind his endorsement but would re-evaluate the field after candidate qualifying.
How Redistricting Changed the Race
The Callais v Louisiana decision forced Louisiana to redraw its U.S. House districts, canceling the May 16 primary originally scheduled for the old district. Miguez now must decide whether to run in one of two newly drawn districts—neither of which he currently lives in, though residency is not required for candidacy.
| Factor | Before Redistricting | After Redistricting |
|---|---|---|
| District | Old safe Republican seat | Two new districts with unknown partisan lean |
| Primary Date | May 16 | Postponed to November |
| Trump Endorsement | Secured | Uncertain, pending candidate field |
| Residency Requirement | Required | Not required for candidacy |
