The Microsoft Surface Laptop 8 delivers a premium Windows experience with Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon X2 chips, a haptic touchpad, and longer battery life, but comes with a significant price hike due to rising component costs. This direct successor to the 2024 Surface Laptop 7 aims to compete with Apple's MacBook Air and other thin-and-light machines. Starting at £1,449, it offers a choice of Snapdragon X2 Plus or Elite processors, up to 32GB of RAM, and a crisp 120Hz LCD display.
Design and Display: Refined but Familiar
The exterior of the Surface Laptop 8 remains largely unchanged from its predecessor, featuring a solid aluminum body and a satisfying keyboard. New color options, including a fetching jade green, add a touch of personality. The 13.8-inch or 15-inch LCD screen supports HDR and Dolby Vision, delivering bright and high-quality visuals, though the glossy coating can cause glare under overhead office lighting.

Haptic Touchpad Innovation
One of the standout features is the generous haptic touchpad, one of the first to support Windows 11's new haptic signals. You feel subtle taps when mousing over buttons like the close (X) or snapping windows, making on-screen interactions more tactile and alive. The speakers are clear and avoid tinny distortion, though they lack deep bass.
