Portugal's education minister is under intense pressure to resign amid a chaotic national exam marking fiasco that has sparked student protests and a petition with 19,000 signatures. The crisis, centered on the digitization of exam marking, has plunged the Portuguese education sector into its worst turmoil in decades.
Exam Marking Fiasco: What Went Wrong?
The centre-right government pushed for a fully digital marking system to modernize public administration and make evaluations "more rigorous and objective" for over 260,000 students. However, from mid-June, schools reported errors in paper allocation, with retired teachers and even one deceased teacher being called to mark exams. Some educators were assigned subjects outside their expertise, leading to widespread distrust.

| Public Trust | High | Low |
