Republicans have nothing to run on in the upcoming congressional midterm elections, according to House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries. Speaking on CNN's State of the Union 100 days before the November midterms, Jeffries argued that Donald Trump's party has failed to deliver on promises to lower costs and avoid new wars, leaving voters with little reason to support them.
Why Republicans Have Nothing to Run On
Jeffries pointed to several key failures under the Trump administration. Trump broke promises to not start endless wars in the Middle East, and the ongoing conflict with Iran has cost 18 American lives and hundreds of injuries. Additionally, gas and grocery prices have soared, with 95% of Americans perceiving an affordability crisis.

Voter Integrity Distractions
Instead of addressing these issues, Republicans have focused on false claims about noncitizen voting. A software error in New Jersey led to 6,600 noncitizens being registered, but fewer than 400 actually voted. Trump and his allies used this to distract from real problems.
Comparison: Republican vs. Democratic Midterm Strategies
| Issue | Republican Strategy | Democratic Strategy |
|---|---|---|
| Affordability Crisis | Blame Democrats and Biden | Highlight Trump's broken promises |
| Middle East War | Defend military action | Call for de-escalation |
| Voter Integrity | Amplify false claims | Focus on actual economic pain |
Key Takeaways for Voters
- Republicans have no record of success on cost-of-living issues.
- Trump's war in the Middle East contradicts his 2024 campaign promises.
- White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt admitted an affordability crisis but blamed Democrats.
- Democrats aim to regain House and Senate control by addressing real voter concerns.
What the Polling Says
Exclusive Guardian polling shows 95% of Americans believe the US is in an affordability crisis. Gas prices and grocery costs have surged during the conflict, making it the top issue for midterm voters.
