Thailand School Shooting: Teen Suspect Kills 7, Injures 30 2026

Thailand school shooting: A 14-year-old suspect killed at least seven people and injured more than 30 in a tragic attack at Debsirin School in Bangkok. This incident highlights urgent questions about gun control and school safety in Thailand.

Thailand School Shooting: What Happened

On the morning of the attack, the teen suspect first killed his grandparents at home using his grandfather's handgun. He then traveled to Debsirin School, where he was a pupil, and opened fire on teachers and students.

Police confirmed five teachers were shot at the school before the suspect turned the gun on himself. At least 30 people were injured, with nine believed to be severely wounded. A 12-year-old girl remains in a coma with a bullet wound to the head.

Casualty Breakdown and Hospital Response

Thailand's health minister visited Phra Nang Klao hospital, where three critical patients were admitted. Two have undergone surgery and are stable, but the young girl's condition remains critical.

Suspect's Background and Motive

Thailand's prime minister Anutin Charnvirakul said the suspect was "under stress" and appeared to have planned the assault. Authorities removed computer equipment from his home as part of the investigation.

The teen's use of his grandfather's firearm raises concerns about private gun ownership in Thailand, which has one of the highest rates in the world. This has led to calls for stricter regulations.

Government Response and New Legislation

Prime Minister Charnvirakul has vowed to propose a new law to restrict the carrying of firearms by the public. The Higher Education minister donated blood at a nearby hospital and urged others to do the same.

The school has suspended all classes from 10 to 14 August, with staff working from home. This disruption affects hundreds of students and families.
