Thailand School Shooting: Teen Suspect Kills 7, Injures 30 2026

The Thailand school shooting has shocked the world as a 14-year-old suspect killed at least seven people and injured more than 30, officials say. This tragic incident at Debsirin secondary school in Bangkok highlights urgent concerns about youth violence, firearm access, and school safety. Our comprehensive update covers the timeline, victims, official response, and broader implications for gun policy in Thailand.

Timeline of the Thailand School Shooting

According to Thai police, the suspect first killed his grandparents at their home using his grandfather's handgun. He then traveled to Debsirin School, where he was a pupil, and opened fire. The attack occurred in the morning, causing panic among students and staff.

Police confirmed that five teachers were shot at the school before the suspect turned the gun on himself. At least 30 people were injured, with nine severely wounded. A 12-year-old girl remains in a coma after sustaining a bullet wound to the head.

Casualties and Victims

The death toll includes two grandparents, teachers, and students. Health minister Phatthana Phromphat visited Phra Nang Klao hospital, where three critical patients were admitted. Two have undergone surgery and are stable, but the young girl's condition remains critical.

The school announced that all classes will be suspended from 10 to 14 August, with staff working from home. The Higher Education minister donated blood and urged the public to do the same.

Official Response and Gun Control Debate

Thailand's prime minister Anutin Charnvirakul stated the suspect was "under stress" and had planned the assault. He vowed to propose a new law to restrict public firearm carrying. Thailand has one of the highest rates of private gun ownership globally, and this incident has reignited the debate.

Police are investigating the suspect's motives, including removing computer equipment from his home. The country has witnessed several mass shootings in recent years, making this a recurring crisis.
