F1 Summer Report Card: Top Teams and Drivers Ranked 2026

The F1 summer report card reveals that Mercedes came into the season as favourites and have lived up to the billing, with their car dominant in eight wins from 11 meetings. As the season pauses, we grade every team and driver, highlighting the standout performers and those who must do better in the second half.

Mercedes: Top of the Class

Mercedes has been the benchmark in 2025, showcasing a car that is fearsomely hard to catch when in clean air. Their power unit, including the hybrid electrical element, is without doubt the class of the field, despite skewed conclusions from the Aduo engine assessment that favoured Red Bull on internal combustion output.

They lead the constructors' championship by 72 points over Ferrari, and reliability has been their only real issue. With another title seemingly within their grasp, Mercedes has proven superiority on most circuit types, from high-speed Monza to tight street circuits.

Kimi Antonelli: The New Head Boy

The car's potential has been exploited brilliantly by Kimi Antonelli, the 19-year-old Italian who has stepped up to the new regulations with striking skill. Five successive wins and another in Spa show he can close out races and is fearless under pressure.

Team principal Toto Wolff noted, "I would rather rein in a charger than take a stick to a donkey." Antonelli leads Lewis Hamilton by 50 points in the drivers' standings, proving he is the real deal.

Ferrari and Red Bull: Challengers or Pretenders?

Ferrari has pushed Mercedes hard on occasion, but inconsistency has cost them. Red Bull and McLaren have also shown flashes of pace, yet neither has sustained a title challenge. The midfield battle is tighter, with teams like Aston Martin and Alpine showing progress.

Key Takeaways from the First Half

• Mercedes has the best overall package, excelling in both qualifying and race pace.
• Kimi Antonelli is a future world champion, blending speed with maturity.
• Ferrari must improve reliability and strategic calls to stay in contention.
• Red Bull needs to close the gap on electrical deployment efficiency.
• McLaren is the best of the rest but lacks a step forward in downforce.

Who Must Do Better?

While Mercedes celebrates, several teams face tough questions. Red Bull has underperformed relative to their engine's raw power, and McLaren has failed to convert promising starts into podiums. The team that must do better is arguably Ferrari, given their resources and talent pool, as they need to turn second place into a genuine title fight.
