Alejandro Garnacho has sealed a season-long loan move to Aston Villa from Chelsea, as the winger looks to revive his career under Unai Emery. The deal includes a conditional obligation to buy for a fee similar to the £40m Chelsea paid Manchester United last summer. This transfer marks another chapter in the growing relationship between the two clubs.
Why Garnacho Left Chelsea for Villa Park
Garnacho struggled to secure regular playing time at Stamford Bridge under new manager Xabi Alonso, featuring in 43 games across all competitions but scoring only eight goals. After being informed he was not in the manager's long-term plans, the Argentine agreed to stay away from training while his departure was arranged. Unai Emery expressed delight at the signing, calling Garnacho "so talented, young" and eager to contribute to Villa's project.

Transfer Details and Financial Breakdown
The loan includes a conditional obligation to buy, likely mirroring the £40m Chelsea spent last August. This structure allows Villa to spread the cost while evaluating Garnacho's fit. The deal is Villa's third signing of the summer, following Johan Manzambi and João Gomes.
| Player | From | Fee | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| Alejandro Garnacho | Chelsea | £40m (obligation) | Loan with option to buy |
| Morgan Rogers | Aston Villa | £117m | Permanent |
| Axel Disasi | Chelsea | Loan | Temporary |
This transfer continues a busy pipeline between Villa and Chelsea, including the sales of Carney Chukwuemeka, Omari Kellyman, and Ian Maatsen. Meanwhile, Youri Tielemans left Villa for Manchester United after his £35m release clause was triggered.
Impact on Aston Villa's Squad
Garnacho adds depth to Villa's attacking options as the club prepares for Champions League football, despite a Uefa-imposed partially suspended £19.4m fine for breaching squad cost ratios. Unai Emery now has a young, pacey winger who can operate on both flanks, providing competition for established stars.
