Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara, a prominent Cuban dissident artist, has been granted permission to travel to the United States after his prison sentence ended. The 38-year-old artist, designated a prisoner of conscience by Amnesty International, was sentenced to five years in 2022 for insulting national symbols and disturbing public order.
His whereabouts remained unknown after his release, but a Facebook page managed by close friends announced on Friday that his parole application to enter the US had been approved. In this context, parole refers to temporary residency in the US.
