Seth Meyers recently highlighted that Trump's approval ratings are now worse than George W. Bush's during the Iraq War, sparking widespread discussion. The late-night host dissected the numbers with sharp humor, calling them "quite troubling" in a satirical riff on the Washington Post poll.
Trump Approval Ratings Hit Historic Lows
According to a Washington Post poll, President Donald Trump's approval rating in his second term is the lowest of any 21st-century president. Independent voters rate him even lower than Richard Nixon during Watergate. Meyers compared the situation to Bush's 2007 ratings, noting that Bush faced a shoe-throwing incident, while Trump lacks even that agility.

The numbers paint a stark picture. Below is a comparison of approval ratings for recent presidents during key controversial periods.

| Richard Nixon (1973) | 24% | Watergate scandal |
| Barack Obama (2012) | 49% | Post-recession recovery |
Seth Meyers' Take on the Numbers
Meyers mocked Trump's claims that China stole voter data, quipping, "Are you drunk, bro?" He also noted that Trump's tariffs on Canada and voting restrictions are unpopular with independents. The comedian used vivid imagery: Trump would still have a shoe mark if thrown at, while Bush dodged like a baseball player.
Key Takeaways from the Poll
- Trump's approval is lower than any president since at least 2000.
- Independents favor him less than Nixon during Watergate.
- His base remains loyal, but overall numbers are sinking.
