In a surprising move, Donald Trump implores Republicans to vote in November midterms, making a desperate plea at the GOP's first-ever midterm convention in Dallas. With his approval rating at a historic low and facing backlash over rising prices and the war in Iran, Trump asked supporters to 'pretend' he is on the ticket.
Trump's Unusual Plea at Midterm Convention
At the two-day event in Dallas, Texas, Trump addressed a crowd of about 20,000, saying, 'You gotta do me the biggest favour you've ever done me. You've gotta do this for me. You've got to pretend I'm on the ticket. I'm on the ticket!' This unconventional approach highlights the high stakes for the Republican party in the upcoming November elections.

Context of the Midterm Elections
The midterm elections are typically a referendum on the sitting president's party. With Trump's approval rating at a historic low, sweeping losses for Republicans could effectively turn Trump into a lame duck for his final two years in the White House. The president is facing growing backlash over rising prices and the war in Iran, adding to the urgency of his message.
Implications for the Republican Party
Trump's plea underscores the importance of voter turnout for the GOP. In an improvised pledge of allegiance to himself, Trump directed the crowd to raise their right hands and repeat a pledge, which critics say smacked of desperation. The convention aimed to turn around Republicans' fortunes, but Trump's unconventional tactics may not resonate with all voters.
