Kemi Badenoch has declared war on net zero targets, signaling a dramatic shift in Conservative Party climate policy. The Tory leader is purging candidates who support the UK's 2050 net zero goals, calling them dangerously woke.
What Kemi Badenoch's Net Zero Stance Means for the UK
Badenoch argues that while climate change may be real, there is no point in the UK acting alone. She claims other countries burning fossil fuels makes British efforts futile. This race-to-the-bottom logic has alarmed environmentalists and moderate Tories alike.

FAQ
What is Kemi Badenoch's position on net zero?
Badenoch believes the UK should not try to meet net zero targets if other countries continue burning fossil fuels. She has made opposing net zero a requirement for Conservative candidates.
Who has been affected by the purge?
Former Tory MP and peer Gavin Barwell had the whip removed for supporting net zero and the ECHR. More MPs are expected to be targeted.
How does this impact UK energy policy?
The shift could slow renewable energy investments and weaken the UK's commitment to the Paris Agreement, affecting energy utilities and climate targets.
Badenoch's hardline approach has drawn comparisons to Donald Trump's "drill, baby, drill" philosophy. Critics warn it will isolate the UK on the global stage and undermine efforts to combat climate change. The Conservative Party now faces an internal civil war over its environmental future.
