The US military has launched its 10th consecutive round of strikes on Iran, forcing the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz as Iran declares a full-scale war. The conflict escalated dramatically after Iran struck US allies in the Gulf and the US expanded its aerial campaign, even as diplomatic talks continue.
Escalation of US-Iran Conflict
Iranian media reported strikes around Tabriz, believed to house underground missile bases, and Bushehr, home to Iran's only operational civilian nuclear power plant. The US military stated it targeted military command centers, air defense, coastal surveillance sites, maritime capabilities, missile and drone launch sites, and communications networks. In response, Iran launched attacks against Bahrain—hosting the US Navy's Fifth Fleet—and Kuwait, as well as striking tankers in the Strait of Hormuz. Prior to the war, this waterway carried one-fifth of global oil and gas supplies.

Bahrain reported damage to its air traffic systems, but operations continued. The Iran-allied Houthis in Yemen also announced a blockade of Saudi ports. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated, “The reality is that today the Islamic Republic of Iran is engaged in a full-scale war,” warning that more strikes may follow.
US Casualties and Retaliation
US President Donald Trump signaled an escalation, saying Iran would “pay” for killing US soldiers “many times over” after multiple service members were killed over the weekend. The US military identified two soldiers killed in Jordan while defending against Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks. An examination of remains is underway to identify a possible third service member reported missing. In Iraq, another US service member died from a controlled detonation of an Iranian drone. Since the conflict began, 17 US service members have been killed.
Energy Market Implications
The ongoing strikes directly threaten global energy supplies. The Strait of Hormuz is a chokepoint for oil and liquefied natural gas shipments. Any prolonged disruption could spike energy prices worldwide. Energy utilities and oil companies are closely monitoring the situation, and contingency plans are being activated. The US has indicated it will maintain military pressure to ensure the strait remains open, but Iran’s retaliation may further destabilize the region.
