Tour de France 2026: Evenepoel Wins Stage 16 Time Trial 2026

The Tour de France 2026 continued with an electrifying stage 16 individual time trial, where Remco Evenepoel claimed a commanding victory. The Belgian rider clocked 32 minutes and 19 seconds, outpacing Tadej Pogacar by a significant margin and moving into the top ten of the overall standings.

Stage 16 Time Trial Highlights

Evenepoel's performance was a masterclass in pacing and power. He averaged over 50 km/h on the technical course, which included a sharp climb that reshuffled the general classification. Pogacar, despite finishing second, extended his lead in the polkadot jersey race for mountains points.

Evenepoel's Winning Ride

The Red Bull Bora-Hansgrohe rider delivered a flawless effort, gaining time on every intermediate split. “I felt great from the start. The team gave me a perfect setup,” Evenepoel said post-stage. This win marks his second stage victory in this year's Tour, solidifying his reputation as a time trial specialist.

GC Shake-Up

Pogacar retains the yellow jersey with a comfortable lead, but Evenepoel's surge moved him to second overall, pushing Isaac Del Toro down to third. The top ten saw several shifts, with Paul Seixas and Juan Ayuso also climbing.

The points classification also saw changes: Mads Pedersen leads with 417 points, followed by Jasper Philipsen and Biniam Girmay. Evenepoel now sits 10th in that ranking.

Key Takeaways from Stage 16
