Tour de France Finale: Alpe d'Huez Showdown

The 170.9km stage from Bourg-d'Oisans to Alpe d'Huez features 5,450m of climbing and four categorised ascents, including the daunting Col de Sarenne. The race returns to its most iconic peak for the first time since 2022 when Tom Pidcock conquered the climb. Tadej Pogacar holds a commanding lead in the yellow jersey race, but his team is battling a sickness bug that could shake up the final standings.

Saturday's stage marks the end of an intense Alpine trilogy. With Jeremy Whittle reporting from the roadside and Tom Bassam's rolling blog capturing every attack, you won't miss a moment of the drama.

Commonwealth Games: Nine Golds on the Line

Glasgow’s reduced 10-sport and six para-sport programme may not have the lustre of previous editions, but King Charles’s opening ceremony Tardis stunt has brought a fresh sense of uplift. Highlights include Adam Peaty seeking gold in the 100m breaststroke final (9.04pm) and the mixed 4x100m freestyle relay (9.11pm). Eighteen-year-old Filip Nowacki, world junior breaststroke champion, aims to become Jersey’s first Commonwealth medallist since 1990.

England will defend their women’s artistic gymnastics team title from 2022, while netball action features all four home nations – Scotland take on New Zealand, the bronze medallists from Birmingham. Will Unwin leads our live blog, with Sean Ingle and Yara El-Shaboury reporting from the venue.

Hungarian GP: Formula 1 at the Hungaroring

The Hungarian Grand Prix rounds out the day’s triple header. While not detailed in the excerpt, fans can expect tight racing on the twisty Hungaroring circuit, with championship implications for Max Verstappen and his rivals. Stay tuned for live timing and driver quotes.
