Tinsman Road Review: Found Footage Horror Haunts in Search of 2026

Tinsman Road review explores how this found footage horror film by Robbie Banfitch uses grief and ghostly footsteps to create a haunting experience that lingers long after the credits roll.

Robbie Banfitch, known for ultra-low-budget projects like The Outwaters and White Light, returns with Tinsman Road, a deeply personal story about a filmmaker searching for his missing sister. He wears every hat—director, writer, producer, cinematographer, editor, and lead actor—proving that passion can outweigh big budgets.

Found Footage Horror That Feels Real

What sets Tinsman Road apart from typical found footage films is its careful sound design. The sound of footsteps and subtle creaks build tension without relying on jump scares. Banfitch’s character, Robbie Lyle, returns to rural New Jersey to stay with his mother Leslie, played by Banfitch’s own mother, Leslie Ann Banfitch. Her performance adds genuine emotional weight.

The mystery centers on Noelle, Robbie’s sister who vanished years ago while walking on the secluded Tinsman Road. Robbie claims to be making a documentary about angels, but his skepticism is tested as strange events unfold: a music box playing the Blue Danube waltz, cassette tapes with eerie drawings, and his mother sleepwalking and muttering cryptic phrases.

Sound and Footsteps as Narrative Devices

The film cleverly uses audio to suggest the presence of the supernatural. Footsteps echo in empty rooms, and the sound design makes you question what’s real. This is more nuanced than most cheap horror iterations, proving that atmosphere can be built with minimal visuals.

As Robbie interviews locals about his sister’s disappearance, the audience learns that Noelle’s old drawings seem to predict the forest views he’s warned to avoid. The foreboding thickens, leading to a climax that challenges Robbie’s rationality.
