Thomas Tuchel's England tactics left players puzzled after a defensive capitulation in the World Cup semi-final against Argentina. The head coach, who promised a Premier League-style intensity, saw his squad picks and game plan unravel in a shocking 1-0 surrender.
Tuchel's Bold Squad Picks and Tactical Vision
Tuchel built his England squad around physicality and relentless running, omitting creative talents like Phil Foden, Cole Palmer, Adam Wharton, Morgan Gibbs-White, and Trent Alexander-Arnold. He argued that he had a clear vision and was sticking to it.

The Argentina Semi-Final Collapse
Argentina were there for the taking, but Tuchel lost his nerve. He failed to use the pace of Noni Madueke, Bukayo Saka, or Marcus Rashford on the break. Former Germany forward Thomas Müller was scathing, and Wayne Rooney called the tactics "asking for trouble."

|---|---|---|
| Phil Foden | Creative midfielder | Omitted from squad |
| Bukayo Saka | Winger | Not used on counter |
| Noni Madueke | Pacey forward | Left on bench |
