The West Midlands is set to take public control of its bus network, as Andy Burnham confirmed a new partnership between the government and the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA). This move aims to protect thousands of jobs threatened by National Express's parent company leaving the market.
Why Public Control of the Bus Network Matters
Public control of the bus network represents a significant shift from private operation. The WMCA will now oversee routes, fares, and service standards, ensuring that transport decisions prioritize public needs over profit margins. This change is expected to bring more reliable and affordable services to the region.

Impact on Commuters and Local Economy
Commuters can expect more integrated ticketing, better frequency, and improved accessibility. A stable bus network supports local businesses by ensuring workers can reach jobs and customers can access services. This is a strategic investment in the region's economic resilience.
