Manchester United are set to appoint former Hearts manager Eva Olid as their new head coach, a move that signals a fresh direction for the Women's Super League club. The appointment comes after Marc Skinner's exit on Monday, with talks described as very advanced and an introduction to the squad expected on Wednesday.
Why Eva Olid is the Right Choice for Manchester United
Olid, a 40-year-old Spanish coach, brings a wealth of experience from her five-year tenure at Hearts, where she secured the club's first Scottish Women's Premier League title last season. Her ability to develop young players and implement an attractive playing style impressed United's hierarchy, who conducted extensive background checks before finalizing the succession plan.

United are aiming to shift focus toward homegrown talent and academy development, a strategy that aligns with Olid's proven track record. Her previous roles with Houston Dynamo's women's team and under-19s men's squad, as well as the Catalan Football Association, highlight her versatility and commitment to player growth.
Olid's Coaching Philosophy and Tactical Approach
Known for a possession-based, attacking style, Olid emphasizes technical proficiency and high pressing. At Hearts, she transformed the team into a cohesive unit that dominated domestically, reaching the 2024 Scottish Cup final and pushing Rangers to the limit. Her ability to adapt tactics based on opponent strengths will be crucial in the competitive WSL.
United finished fourth in the WSL last season, and Olid's appointment is seen as a long-term investment. The club believes the current spending levels across the league are unsustainable, prompting a strategic pivot to nurture young talents from their own academy.
