Rodri's contract situation at Manchester City is at a critical juncture, with the club hopeful of securing a new deal but bracing for a bid from Real Madrid. The Spanish midfielder, who led his country to World Cup glory, has yet to sign an extension, sparking intense speculation ahead of the next transfer window.
Rodri's Contract Standoff
Manchester City have had a new contract offer on the table for Rodri for some time, but the 30-year-old has not yet put pen to paper. With his current terms expiring next June, the Premier League champions are optimistic that talks will succeed, but the clock is ticking. Rodri's injury-plagued recent seasons had raised concerns, but his stellar performances for Spain—where he won the Golden Ball as the tournament's best player—have only increased his value.

Real Madrid's Shift in Stance
Real Madrid had previously indicated they were not interested in signing Rodri, but that has changed dramatically. Sources confirm the club is now preparing a bid, impressed by his leadership and consistency during the World Cup. Rodri himself has hinted at a possible move, stating earlier this year: "You can't turn down one of the world's best clubs." Real's interest could trigger a bidding war, with Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain also monitoring the situation.
Financial Implications and Potential Sales
To fund a deal for Rodri, Real Madrid may need to offload players. Aurélien Tchouaméni, who has reportedly agreed a new contract, could be sold for around £70 million. Manchester United retain interest in the French midfielder, although they have questioned the fee. Meanwhile, Rodri is set to undergo back surgery after returning from North America, but that has not deterred suitors.
