Gaslighting as the Central Theme
Director Jennifer E Montgomery crafts a claustrophobic atmosphere where every character's motive is suspect. The film asks: Is Jake manipulating Mia from prison? Is Ajay protecting her or controlling her? Or is Mia deceiving herself? This ambiguity keeps viewers engaged, though the plot occasionally loses focus on Mia's inner state.
Performance and Direction
Simone Ashley delivers a compelling portrayal of a woman in psychological freefall. Austin Stowell brings unsettling charm to Jake, while Suraj Sharma's Ajay is convincingly solicitous. Montgomery's direction shines in dreamlike sequences, especially the recurring image of Mia falling in a tangerine dress, echoing Vertigo's sense of time distortion.
Visual Motifs and Symbolism
The ouroboros doodles and circular imagery reinforce the cycle of abuse that Mia must break. These symbols add depth, but the film's frequent jumps between past and present can feel disjointed. Despite this, the suspense remains taut, making it a solid pick for thriller enthusiasts.
