Castlevania: Belmont's Curse brings the iconic franchise back to its side-scrolling roots, launching in October with a thrilling new setting in 1499 Paris. Players take control of Rose, Trevor Belmont's daughter, as she battles through demon-infested sewers and faces a shocking boss: Joan of Arc. This revival, developed in partnership with Evil Empire (known for Dead Cells), promises to reclaim the series' throne in the metroidvania genre.
What Is Castlevania: Belmont's Curse?
Set 23 years after Castlevania 3, the game mirrors the hit Netflix series' timeline. Rose Belmont wields a versatile whip that can hoist her to ceilings, propel her toward enemies, and ricochet off their chests for deadly blows. The gameplay is fast, fluid, and deeply satisfying, blending classic elements with modern mechanics.

Why This Revival Matters for Metroidvania Fans
With an entire generation raised on metroidvanias, Konami is reclaiming its legacy by returning to 2D side-scrolling. Producer Tsutomu Taniguchi noted the pressure of reviving a beloved series, but the collaboration with Evil Empire—born from a cold email about Dead Cells DLC—proved perfect. The game's controls feel instantly responsive, and the whip's new abilities add a kinetic energy absent from recent 3D entries.
Release Date and Platforms
