Esistono due grandi categorie di tessuti aerei: elasticizzati e NON elasticizzati, con alcune variazioni intermedie.
Tutti i tessuti aerei dovrebbero avere almeno una elasticità orizzontale bidirezionale. Sono realizzati in poliestere-lycra o nylon tricot.
