The gender quota debate within the Liberal party has intensified after Angus Taylor hosed down a proposal for introducing quotas, while senior shadow cabinet ministers urged the party to consider all options with urgency. A discussion paper from the internal Liberal Party Commission group, led by Queensland senator James McGrath, proposed refreshing the ageing membership base and engaging more women, multicultural communities, and young people.
Angus Taylor's Stance on Gender Quotas
Angus Taylor stated on Thursday, "I've never supported any quotas at all, but what I do support is more great people joining the Liberal party and more great people, women and from all sorts of backgrounds." His comments came after the paper was circulated to supporters on Wednesday, sparking a divide within the party.
