Keir Starmer resigned as UK prime minister in a brief five-minute speech outside No 10, marking a swift and understated end to his tenure. The resignation came with little buildup, as Starmer seemed eager to move on from the pressures of leadership, leaving the stage for his successor, Andy Kerr.
In his address, Starmer claimed he left the country in a better place than he found it, but many critics argue he failed to inspire lasting change. The rapid turnover of prime ministers in recent years has made such resignation moments almost routine, yet they remain poignant. Starmer’s departure lacked the theatrical tears of Theresa May or the bitterness of Boris Johnson—it was simply businesslike.
