The United Kingdom has declared it is ready to defend itself after Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps warned that any bases used by the US are 'legitimate targets'. This escalation follows the US's 12th consecutive night of strikes against targets in Iran, with the IRGC specifically mentioning RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire as a launch point for American bombing missions. The British government maintains its policy of allowing defensive operations while refusing to participate in offensive actions, a stance unchanged under new Prime Minister Andy Burnham.
Iran's Warning and UK Military Preparedness
The IRGC's statement, published on the Tasnim news agency, accused the 'British monarchy regime' of being the 'primary cause of hardships in our region' with a 'black record of partitioning Islamic nations, widespread massacres, imposing despotic regimes, and organising the occupation of Palestine.' In response, a UK government spokesperson affirmed that armed forces are ready 24/7 to defend the nation through a layered air and missile defense system involving the Royal Navy, British Army, and Royal Air Force, working closely with NATO allies.
