The Women's Super League (WSL) is bringing back Sunday evening kick-offs for the 2026-27 season as part of a major broadcast overhaul aimed at boosting viewing figures. This strategic move follows a season where lunchtime slots underperformed, and the league now seeks to maximize audience engagement across the weekend.
New Broadcast Slots for WSL 2026-27
The WSL has released its fixtures with a fresh approach, offering six different TV slots to broadcasters. Sky Sports retains the Saturday 12:45pm and Sunday noon slots, but adds regular Friday 7pm and Sunday 6pm kick-offs. The BBC will broadcast 19 live matches at Saturday 12:30pm and Sunday 2:30pm.

This change is designed to spread games across the weekend, avoiding the previous congestion where multiple matches kicked off simultaneously, diluting the audience. The league consulted with broadcasters, clubs, and fans to strike a balance between TV appeal and matchday attendance.
Why Sunday Evening Kick-offs Matter
Sunday evening games were dropped last season due to poor attendances, but they were a hit with broadcasters. Sky's best-performing slot in 2024-25 was Sunday evening, averaging 144,000 viewers. Now, the WSL is bringing back this slot, mostly at 6pm, with adjustments to avoid clashes with Premier League games at 4:30pm.
Derbies and high-profile matches are likely to be scheduled for the new evening slots to maximize interest. This strategic shift aims to create appointment viewing and grow the league's fanbase.
