The beloved bald eagle Jackie from Big Bear Lake has been found alive but injured after a fight with other birds, according to Friends of Big Bear Valley. The advocacy group operates a live nestcam that has made Jackie and her partner Shadow viral sensations. Observers first spotted the eagle on the ground last Thursday, then witnessed a "short ground altercation with two other subadult eagles" on Friday.
Jackie the Bald Eagle's Rescue and Recovery
Cell phone video confirmed that the adult eagle was able to fend off the other eagles by turning over and using its talons, but was unable to fly far away. The injured bird was rescued by San Dimas Raptor Rescue, a division of Los Angeles County Parks Foundation. While initial reports were uncertain about the eagle's identity, Friends of Big Bear Valley now believes the rescued eagle is indeed Jackie.
