Furious is a groundbreaking serial killer thriller that redefines feminist storytelling on television. The new Disney+ series stars Emmy Rossum as FBI agent Alice Black and Lola Petticrew as Catherine, a calculated female serial killer targeting men. From the opening scenes, this show challenges every convention of the crime drama genre.
What Makes Furious the Most Feminist TV Show?
Unlike typical murder dramas that rely on mutilated female bodies and victimhood, Furious centers on women's agency and systemic injustice. The narrative explores how wealthy men exploit legal loopholes, echoing real-world scandals like Epstein. FBI mentor Nora (Quincy Tyler Bernstine) notes, "Once you accept money for sex, you are a criminal," highlighting the double bind faced by female witnesses.

Breaking Tropes with Female Leads
Alice Black and her mentor Nora approach investigations with a nuanced understanding of trauma. They notice details that male officers miss, such as the subtle ways power dynamics play out in interviews. The show also forces Black to collaborate with an abusive ex-partner (Jake Lacy), adding layers of personal conflict that mirror institutional failures.
