Man Arrested for Threat to Shoot Nigel Farage on Social Media 2026

A man has been arrested on suspicion of posting a death threat on social media in which he threatened to shoot Nigel Farage. The Metropolitan Police detained the suspect in his 20s after the parliamentary authorities reported the message in May. This case highlights ongoing concerns about the safety of politicians in the UK.

Details of the Arrest

The arrest took place on Tuesday, July 14, at a residential address in south London. Detectives first applied to the social media platform for the user's contact information after receiving the report. The post on X, made during the May elections, read: "I am going to shoot you in the head if you win."

After being held in police custody overnight, the man was bailed pending further inquiries. A Met spokesperson confirmed the arrest was for sending threatening communications to a member of parliament.

Nigel Farage's Response

Farage told the Telegraph: "This is the first time the police have ever proactively acted on a social media post, and I hope they are looking at the other three or four hundred similar posts from this year alone." He has long claimed that death threats against MPs are not taken seriously enough and has called for more security funding for politicians.

Political Violence and Security Concerns

The case comes after Ann Widdecombe, a former MP and Reform UK spokesperson, was killed last week. Police are investigating possible leftwing political motives. In recent years, several individuals have been convicted for threatening to kill or rape MPs, including Stella Creasy, Jess Asato, Jess Phillips, and Ed Miliband.
