Rectify cement openings appropriately, repairing or patching concrete cracks is sometimes tedious due to the use of construction material that involves getting dirty from head to toe. But don't let that common excuse stop you, because if the crack is not patched, over time you may have to replace the entire section of concrete.

Step 1: Clean Crack
I started this repair by cleaning the crack with my wire brush and removing any small, broken pieces. I used a broom to clean up any leftover residue.
Step 2: Mix the repair mortar
I combined one part of the 20 pound bucket with warm water (speed up the baseline time) until it was thoroughly mixed and had a firm, gelatinous consistency.
Step 3: Apply the mortar
Before starting, I sprayed water on the concrete to moisten the surface. Using my putty knife I applied mortar to the crack and skimmed the rest of the face of the concrete. Like paint, it's easier to spot a partly painted wall so you use the corners as transitions.

Tools and Materials
Quikrete generously sent me a bucket of FastSet repair mortar which is used for repairing concrete, masonry and stucco. The mortar is polymer-modified, fast-setting and has a “low-sag formula,” making it ideal for vertical and elevated repairs.
It is important to know that this crack has not moved or widened at all over the last 6 years. If there was any possibility of movement, the appropriate product for this repair would be a flexible polyurethane concrete crack sealant.
Temperatures
Fortunately temperatures here in Maryland are still above 32°C, even at night.
Otherwise the water (mixed with the dry mortar) would freeze and cause the repair to gnaw. If temperatures are too low, professionals often use accelerator to speed up the concrete to set the time and insulating blankets to trap heat.
During the summer months, professionals use retarder to delay the set time.

Step 4: Mortar Tool
I followed the mortar tools after the initial setup to achieve a smooth and uniform look.

As the mortar hardened, I moved to my rubber trowel because I was able to apply heavy pressure and better around the corners.

Step 5: Spraying old concrete and using transitions
I used a hammer to pulverize a few pieces of concrete into a fine powder, and I lightly dusted the top edge where the repair meets existing concrete. My goal was to further hide the transition from new to old.

Step 6: Let cure
In addition to ensuring the repair does not dry too quickly during the first 24 hours, there are no special procedures for curing FastSet repair mortar.

Finished
Even with hot water, lower temperatures slowed the curing time. After 24 hours the color of the mortar was much lighter and began to mix with the existing concrete. I used the new wire brush to smooth out some places along the corner.

That's all!
