Guide to Building Tilt Storage Room Shelving, a large multi-function storage unit with open top shelves, lower cabinets and two tilt wash units.

Materials needed:

• (1) Full sheet, 1/4″ thick plywood
• (5) Hinges
• (5) Wooden strips
• (6) Shelf bolts (4 per shelf)

• (1) Kreg Circular Saw Guide Track
• (1) Kreg Pocket-Hole Jig
• (1) Kreg Shelf Pin Jig
• (1) Circular saw
• (1) Drill (cordless)
• (1) Table saw
• (1) Sander

Cut List:

• (2) Base unit front and rear brackets, 3/4″ x 3″ x 8′
• (2) Base unit sides, 3/4" x 15" x 31.5"
• (1) Countertop, 3/4″ x 16″ x 8’3.5″
• (3) Base Unit Interior Dividers, 3/4″ x 15″ x 27.75″
• (2) Laundry Unit Dividers, 3/4″ x 3″ x 27.75″
• (4) Vertical studs, 3/4″ x 10″ x 51″
• (1) Top shelf, 3/4″ x 10″ x 8′
• (6) Shelves, 3/4″ x 10″ x 31″

Step 1: Make Cuts and Prepare Pocket Holes

Using the cut list provided, make all necessary cuts. Use the Kreg Pocket Hole Jig to add pocket holes to all parts as indicated on the diagrams.

For the base unit dividers and shelf uprights I like to drill pocket holes on opposite sides of the boards at the top and bottom.

With the exception of end boards which should always have pocket holes on the inside.

Step 2: Create base framework

Attach the front and rear 3″ faceboards to the side pieces of the base unit, keeping the holes hidden on the inside of the unit.

Step 3: Install support brackets

To add more support to the cabinet floor, install two clamps that divide into three equal sections.

Step 4: Install the bottom shelf

Place the bottom shelf on top of the support pieces.

Step 5: Install Cabinet Dividers

Install the cabinet divider studs equally spaced along the bottom shelf. Use the 3″ strip studs between the two laundry units (where a full divider is not necessary). Adjust the width of your laundry units as needed to fit your baskets and divide the other three units equally.

Step 6: Install the countertop

Attach the counter to the top of the cabinet dividers using pocket-hole screws at the top of the base unit studs. Be sure to keep the studs straight.

Step 7: Add the back

Attach 1/4″ plywood support to the back of the cabinet using nails.

Step 8: Assemble the Cabinet Doors

Using your favorite method, make doors for each of your cabinet sections (five in total).

Step 9: Construction Tilting Laundry Units (2)

Attach the base of the wash unit to the bottom of the door. Add additional supports using two 3″ pieces cut diagonally.

Step 10: Install Cabinet Doors

Install your three regular cabinet doors with the hinges of your choice. Install hinges for laundry units on the base unit at the bottom of the doors instead of the side. PeqSmall pieces of chain can be added to the sides to prevent the laundry units from falling forward.

Step 11: Assemble the top shelf

Attach top studs to the top shelf using pocket hole joints.

Step 12: Lift the top unit and secure to the base

With a partner, lift the top shelving unit onto the base and secure it, making sure the uprights are straight.

Step 13: Drill Holes for Shelf Bolts

Determine your ideal spacing and use the Kreg jig to drill holes for your shelf bolts and then add shelves.

Step 14: Completion
