How to Plumb a Bathroom, if you're building a house or remodeling, and don't want to throw money down the drain (we're serious), you'll want to invest a little sweat equity in learning how to install bathroom plumbing and fixtures yourself. You can do it! In this article we will try to help you in the best way possible!
Step 1: Installation

Determine the location of bathroom plumbing fixtures.
You will need to figure out the location of your bathtub or shower, sink, and toilet. This will determine where you will need the plumbing pipes.
- You will need to make holes in the floor so you can run the pipes to the fixtures, so it is important to determine the exact location.
- Carefully locate and mark all cut points and drilling points.
- Measure again to make sure your markings are accurate. "Measure twice, cut once" can be with a saw.
- Do all necessary cutting and drilling. You want to do the prep work before turning off the water, to minimize "dry" time.
Step 2: Turn off the water throughout the house

Before doing any work on your plumbing, you will need to turn off the bathroom faucets. Locate the water valves and turn them off.
Step 3: Install the water pipes

You will need to run 5 water pipes to a standard bathroom: a hot and cold pipe for the tub/shower and sink, and a cold water pipe for the toilet.
You can install these pipes through the wall or from the floor, depending on the location of your bathroom.
Connect flexible hot and cold water pipes to sink and bathtub faucets.
Using sandpaper, clean the copper pipes so they are smooth, and then solder the lines to the main water line.
Step 4: Connect the drain pipes

For your bathroom, you will need multiple sizes of drain lines. The drain line for the toilet should be a 3 inch (7.62 cm) or 4 inch (10.16 cm) line.
After connecting the pipe to the toilet drain, the pipe should slope downward toward the main drain pipe. The sink drain pipe will be 1.5 inches (3.81 cm) and the tub will use a 2 inch (5.08 cm) drain pipe.
Step 5: Put the toilet in place

Toilets generally come in 2 pieces: a tank and a bowl. Start by installing the bowl.
- Connect the tank pipe to the waste pipe to your toilet. To do this, glue the tank pipe in place so that the slots line up with the toilet bolt holes.
- Place the container over the bolts and into the pipe. You may want to sit on the toilet and rock back and forth a little to apply it properly.
- Check if the container is level, and then tighten the nuts and washers on the tank bolts.
- Place the toilet tank on the bowl with nuts.
- Connect the water line and then caulk around the base of the bowl to secure the toilet.
Step 6: Install the sink

- Start by placing the bracket to do a test fit.
- Mark where the floor bolt should go and drill a hole through the sink bracket and secure it to the floor with a nut and bolt.
- Connect the sink to the hot and cold water pipes. Also attach the handles, stopper, and drain to the top of the sink.
- Place the sink on the stand and glue a threaded adapter to the drain pipe.
Step 7: Connect a bathtub and shower unit

- Mark the outline of the tub on the floor so you can estimate where the drain will be.
- Run the drain pipe and dry it.
- Once you have it lined up, glue the waste line to connect it to the tub drain.
- Place the bathtub and check that it is level.
Step 8: Maintenance

- Use a plunger on your toilet if it becomes clogged.
- Once the plumbing in your bathroom is complete, you may still have problems in the future.
- To unclog a toilet, press a plunger against the hole and push the plunger up and down.
- If that doesn't work, you can use a closet auger, which has a coil on the end that goes into the toilet, and a handle on the other end that makes the coil go deeper into the pipes.
Step 9: Unclog the sink with a plunger or auger

- If your sink gets clogged, you can use the plunger or an auger.
- You can also clean the trap under the sink by removing the trap cover.
- It will be located at the bottom of the pipe just before it enters the wall.
- Place a coat hanger or wire on the trap to see if you can pull anything out. If that doesn't work, disconnect the pipe with a wrench and clean it with detergent.
Step 10: Use a hose for floor drainage

- Remove the strainer from the floor drain and push the hose in as far down as possible.
- Put rags around the hose at the drain inlet to close the hole.
- Turn on the water with full force and then turn it off again.
- Continue opening and closing until water flows freely through it.
Step 11: Clear the Bathtub Drain with an Auger

To drain the bathtub, unscrew the overflow plate and remove it. Run the auger coil through the pipe to unclog the drain.
