This magnetic ax prank can be something very peculiar that you can do to your friends or acquaintances to play a prank on them.

The prank is very simple, you just need some materials that you can easily get and scare your friends efficiently.

Without a doubt a daring idea that you can do yourself in the comfort of your home.

This prank does not damage your victim's car, it will only greatly alarm him.

Step 1: Tools + Materials

Tools to make the magnetic ax prank:

• Horizontal band saw
• Sanding wheel
• Scissors
• Cutting saw
• Adjustable clamps

Materials:

• Large axe
• Neodymium magnets
• Some neoprene
• 2×4″ wood

Step 2: Cut the ax blade

To cut the ax blade I used the horizontal band saw, this tool is a good choice for cutting as it is slow and the ax can be held in place. It is important that the cutting process be slow since the ax is made of tool steel, a very hard metal. 2×4″ lumber was used to hold the ax in place while cutting.

I started by cutting some 2x4″ lumber at a 30° angle. This wood will act as a clamp while the ax is clamped on the horizontal bandsaw since the ax is irregularly shaped and will not fit in the bandsaw clamp at the angle I wanted to cut.

Using an indelible marker I marked where I wanted my cut to be. Then, using the scrap wood, I clamped the ax to the horizontal band saw and began cutting.

When using the horizontal band saw to cut tool steel, it is important that the saw be set to the slowest position with a very slow drop. Tool steel is very hard and it will take a while for the saw to cut through the axe. For my project, it took about 30 minutes for the saw to cut through the ax blade. Always err on the side of caution and go slowly, ensuring plenty of lubricant for the saw blade during cutting. Read more about using the horizontal band saw here.

Step 3: Grind flat

The horizontal band saw cuts fairly straight, but can cut at an odd angle if its metal moves during cutting. I sanded my cut with a circular sander.

I had originally planned to insert each magnet into the face of the ax head, but found that placing the ax under the drill press was awkward and caused the bit to deflect. As such, the insertion of the magnets was abandoned.

Step 4: Neoprene protection

To protect the car from scratches (either from the metal ax or magnets) I used a small sample of neoprene, cut to the exact size of the face of the ax. Any padded fabric will do, but make sure it's thin enough to allow the magnets to firmly grip whatever you're sticking your prank ax to.

My neoprene was 3 mm.

Step 5: Find your target and hide!

All that's left is to place your neodymium magnets on the face of the ax and you're ready to prank!

Using the neoprene pad, place the ax on the hood, techo, trunk or door of your victim's car. Then sit back and watch your friend (and the viewers) watch what appears to be the worst case of revenge.

After your prank has been performed, everyone can laugh when you remove the ax and show your friend that no harm is done!
