Neck Warmers (Button Hacks), will show you how to make super easy but cool neck warmers in 20 minutes! It was fun when I discovered that changing the button positions on a neck warmer can change the entire pattern!
Follow this guide to find out how buttons can change the pattern of a neck warmer, and in the meantime, try making yourself some comfortable neck warmers or making them as gifts!
They are so easy to make, they turn out great, so why not give the gift of some warm and cozy neck warmers?
Step 1: Necessary Materials

To make these neck warmers you will need:
- Fleece fabric
- Scissors
- Sewing machine
- Thread and needle
- Large buttons (Wooden buttons would look great!)
You may also need a tape measure, pencil, or chalk.
Step 2: Cut and sew

Sewing these neck warmers is super easy, all you have to do is:
- Cut 2 pieces of wool fabric (same size).
- Place one piece on top of the other, with both wrong sides facing out.
- Sew around the edges, but don't forget to keep a small area open because you will have to go around to the right side.
- After turning the right side out, fold the edges of the open side in and sew along the edge, The Red!
- The size of each neck warmer will depend on the user's choice and should fit you or whoever is creating it, so don't forget to measure the width and length before cutting the fleece fabric.
The width and length of my neck warmers are:
- Neck warmer 1: width 5 inches and length 24 inches
- Neck Warmer 2: Width 5 inches and length 26 inches
- Neck Warmer 3: Width 10 inches and length 30 inches
- Neck Warmer 4: Width 10 inches and length 30 inches
These are the final width and length of the neck warmers, so I had to keep extra inches in both width and length of the fleece fabric while cutting.
Step 3: Patterns / Templates

Once you've finished sewing the main fabric for the neck warmer, it's time to add the buttons.
I have attached 4 templates of the 4 neck warmers I have made, take a look at the templates, it might give you a little idea about the patterns.
For patterns 1 and 2 you can also 4 buttons, 2 in each row.
Step 4: Mark the button area

- We're just one step away from the full neck warmer, adding buttons! I did not attach the buttons to the neck warmer in this step, I only placed them on the neck warmer to mark the button holes and button areas.
- Fold the neck warmers into your actual pattern and mark the button/button area and button holes.
- For patterns 3 and 4, you will need to gather the neck warmer in the middle and then create the main pattern.
- For neck warmer 4: Look at the corners marked with 2 red circles, you will have to join these 2 corners and pull the other end up, where it will make the holejero of the button and below that, the button.
Step 5: Add buttons

- I used different wooden buttons and large round wooden beads, they look great on neck warmers.
- Use the scissors to cut out a small area for the button hole and sew around the edges of the button hole with thread and needle,
- Now that you have your button holes ready, fold the neck warmer to your actual pattern (just to make sure you place the buttons correctly) and use a pencil or chalk to mark the button positions through the button holes.
- And, simply place the button/buttons in place (just below the button hole).
Now wear them and feel warm 🙂
