Painting a Tree Mural Indoors, if you are looking to renew the walls of your home, then this technique on how to paint a tree mural indoors is perfect for you. We are in love with painting around here and recently decided that my daughter's room needed a tree.
All the instructions I found on the Internet suggested using a projector. I didn't have or want to get a projector, so this tutorial is so you can take your mural into your own hands and paint it without the help of other tools.
Steps on how to paint a tree mural indoors:
Step 1: The space to work

First, my daughter and I chose a background color and painted two of the walls in her room. There is a small wooden shelf on her wall that I painted and decided to incorporate into the tree.
I was too small to put the brush on the wall without some kind of guide, so my first challenge was to draw a sketch of my tree. Using chalk is the best option for this step. Anything can be removed from the walls easily. I suggest using some cloth and something dry. Talking on wet surfaces becomes difficult.
Step 2: What paint to use?

You can get small, cheap sample paints at the hardware store. A small container completed our tree easily, and it ended up being a good sized tree!
Step 3: Starting to paint

I have three children aged 5,3 and 14 months. Time management is always an issue around here and I was worried that recording the outline would take too much time. BUT! It is absolutely necessary if you have textured walls.
Step 4: Have a prior idea of the shape

I drew a little, then painted a little, drew a little, then painted a little to give it a sense of accomplishment as I went.
Incorporating the shelf was a little more challenging than I had anticipated. It's hard to get the angles right. Don't be afraid to paint a little and then step back to see your work from a different perspective.
Step 5: Trunk and branches!

The best part was getting the tape out. Even the etched lines bled a little, but this added texture and a sense of realism to our tree.
Step 6: Add sheets

We were very interested in the removable leaves since we would be changing them depending on the season. I bought a package of fall color photo mats from the scrapbooking section of the craft store and drew a simple leaf template. It had to be easy so little hands could participate in the cutting.
Step 7: Adhesive Putty

Removable adhesive putty, the type you find on school walls, was what we used to stick the sheets together. Kids LOVE separating the putty, rolling it into little balls, and sticking it to the walls.
Step 8: Finished Project

It takes a little time to collect all the leaves, but once they're up, they're adorable! We painted a small balsa wood bird house and placed it on the branch shelf. We plan to slowly add to the tree. There is a rounded space on the right side where you cansit a painted fairy house, or a family of owls. We haven't decided yet. For Halloween, we'll be adding paper ghosts, witches, and lanterns. Then, in December we will take all the leaves for the winter.
