The Simplest Wall Shelf, depending on why you want to use the shelf, keep in mind that this type of shelf is not suitable for very heavy and solid objects. In my experience, I wouldn't put more than 15kg on the shelf.
Note: Do not attempt to build any library shelves that way.
Step 1: Tools
The following tools are sure to be found in your home:
- Cutting rule
- Cutter blade
- Folding ruler
- Marking needle
- Hammer
- Drill
- Screwdriver or cordless screwdriver
Step 2: Cutting
Now you are ready to start. First cut the leather strips with correct size. According to the length of the strips you need to decide how wide the strips will be. I made my strips 95cm long and 4cm wide. That should be an optimal dimension, if you are going to use a 20cm wide platform.
Step 3: Drilling
Mark points with the help of a needle in the positions where you are going to drill the holes as the next step. On the drawing you can understand exactly where and what distance you can set the holes.
Step 4: Make pleats
As a next step, place the tails of each strip on top of each other in such a way that the punched holes are all exactly located on top of each other and the shortest tail is on top. Finally tap gently with the hammer on the edge to obtain a straight crease in the leather.
Step 5: Assembly
To mount the leather ties on the wall, I used stainless steel screws and rosettes with a diameter of 23 cm. Stainless steel is not cheap, but it seems more high quality. In the last step, mount the strips on the wall and check if they are really fixed. Afterwards, simply put the wooden board you have chosen into the ties. It's ready!
Tip: If you keep thinking creatively, you could use the leather bows not only as a shelf but also as a holder for various items like a skateboard, for example. The ties are ideal for towels or work well as a hanger for your clothes, etc.
